DESCRIPTION:The purpose of fair housing laws and rules is to prevent discri
 mination against people on the basis of a protected class during a propert
 y transaction. Federal\, state and local regulations prohibit brokers\, se
 llers\, lenders\, and insurers from adopting discriminatory policies again
 st people in protected classes.
 The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimin
 ation in the sale\, rental\, and financing of housing based on race\, colo
 r\, national origin\, religion\, sex\, familial status\, and disability. I
 n addition to the federal protected classes\, the state of Oregon has incl
 uded additional protected classes\, and many local governments have includ
 ed even more.
 This course is required by the Oregon Real Estate Agency (
 OREA) for all license renewals beginning in 2026.
